The Apple AirPods true wireless earbuds have been a phenomenon, exploding in popularity despite early apprehension over its unorthodox design. Updated, improved, but retaining its form factor, the Apple AirPods second generation is now available with the new Wireless Charging Case.
The new AirPods are now powered by the Apple-designed H1 chip, taking over from the W1 chip that was implemented on the first generation AirPods. Its predecessor was responsible for Bluetooth 4.1 Class 1 connectivity, and was the main reason why the gen 1 earbuds just worked.
With the new H1 chip, the AirPods generation 2 now boasts quicker connection speeds when switching between devices, better battery life, and support for “Hey Siri” voice assistant summoning. This means the AirPods can now be operated fully hands-free, with the earbuds constantly listening out for the trigger phrase, enabling users to change the volume and navigate tracks completely hands-free. On its previous iteration, users had to tap on either side to access the voice assistant.
The AirPods themselves are identical to its predecessors, but the Wireless Charging Case SGD 199 is slightly different from the standard case. It is available with the standard case at SGD239, and bundled with the new Wireless Charging Case at SGD299.
Anticipation over the new AirPods has been at an all-time high now, with many expecting the launch to take place alongside the March 25 event. With the roll-out of iPad Air, iPad mini, iMac and iWork updates, and now the AirPods generation 2 announcements, it seems that Apple might be focussing solely on a services-only event come March 25, that most expect to focus on video streaming and news subscription platforms.
The new AirPods and Wireless Charging Case will be available to order on the Apple website and on the Apple Store app soon, and will be available in Apple Stores later this Spring.
