Apple TV update brings HBO GO, Sky News, WatchESPN and more.

Today Apple announced that it is rolling out a major software update for Apple TV. The update brings a host of new channels, including HBO Go, WatchESPN and Sky News.

Apple TV users will now be able to watch content from ESPN and HBO without having a cable subscription. However HBO GO on Apple TV will require a subscription to HBO through participating television providers. Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, said that Apple will continue to offer customers of Apple TV with new programming options, along with the massive iTunes library of content that users can purchase from.

Apart from bringing HBO and WatchESPN to Apple TV, the update also brings Crunchyroll, Qello and Sky News. If you’re not familiar with Crunchyroll, it features over 600 shows of the latest Japanese anime and drama. Qello brings HD concert films and music documentaries of major music artists. The new Apple TV update is now live, it can be downloaded via the device itself, just head on over to the Settings menu.
