Apple TV 2G untethered jailbreak for 5.3 firmware released

An untethered jailbreak for second generation Apple TV running firmware version 5.3 has finally been released.

It has been quite a long time since there has been any news about an Apple TV jailbreak. Only the second generation ATV remains right now which can be jailbroken. The third generation model released by Apple late last year is yet to be cracked, and its currently too soon to predict when that might happen. Nevertheless, a new untethered jailbreak is out now for the Apple TV 2G, allowing users to unchain their Apple set-top boxes.

FireCore has announced the release of a new version of Seas0nPass which can be used to jailbreak Apple TV 2G untethered on 5.3 firmware using a Mac or a Windows PC. Well known jailbreak developers @iH8sn0w, @wincom and @SquiffyPwn have helped getting the new version of Seas0nPass out. FireCore has also released a new version of aTV Flash (black) which opens up a host of content sources and expands compatibility of the set-top box. It even includes a web browser which lets users surf online using their Apple TV.

It is said that “encouraging progress” has been made on Apple TV 6.0 firmware jailbreak. This particular firmware update was released late last year and it brought features like iTunes Radio and AirPlay from iCloud. Though no timeframe for a release has been provided.
