Apple starts free repair program for 2011-2013 MacBook Pro models with graphics woes

After a long and agonizing wait, the prayers of Apple MacBook Pro owners who suffered from the AMD graphics woes have been answered. Apple today announced that it will soon be initiating a repair extension program for 2011 to 2013 MacBook Pro owners.

The models eligible for the free repair include the 2011 15” and 17” MacBook Pros as well as the 2012 and 2013 15” MacBook Pro Retina models. You will also need to check your bill to see if your MacBook Pro model is elegible for the “MacBook Pro Repair Extension Program for Video Issues” as only those MacBook Pro models that were bought between February 2011 and December 2013 will be covered. Owners of these laptops have been experiencing a number of issues related to the AMD Graphics over the past few months. The issues include display corruption, system crashes, and other glitches.

MacBook Pro owners had started an online petition as well to get Apple to issue replacement for models affected with the graphics failure. The petition has managed to receive support from 38,233 people so far.

If your model is eligible for the repair program, you can either Carry-in your MacBook Pro to an Apple retail store or authorized service provider, or use a postage paid box to send your MacBook Pro to your local Apple repair center.
