Apple reportedly asks suppliers to boost gold iPhone 5S production

It was rumored prior to the smartphone’s release that perhaps gold iPhone 5S would see a lot of interest in certain markets. Apple has now reportedly asked suppliers to boost production of the gold iPhone 5S.

This is the first time that Apple has offered a gold color option for an iPhone. The color is only being offered for the iPhone 5S, analysts believed that this offering would see greater consumer interest in markets such as China and India. A new report from the Wall Street Journal indicates that there’s significant demand for this variant particularly in Hong Kong. People familiar with the matter claim that Apple has asked its suppliers to boost production of the gold iPhone 5S by one-third, apparently it has made this decision after seeing strong demand across the initial ten launch markets.

There has already been much talk about iPhone 5S production issues, the smartphone is believed to be in short supply at this point in time due to low production, the cause of which is believed to be the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. Production is expected to ramp up in the coming quarter. Only recently it was rumored that Apple’s carrier and retail partners in the U.S. had low inventory of the iPhone 5S, and that most of them didn’t even have the gold color in stock.

Apple hasn’t commented on the report, and it hasn’t revealed if there are indeed any production or supply issues with its latest flagship smartphone. Both new iPhones went on sale today in ten markets, including China, Hong Kong and Japan.
