If you think US$900 for the first spot in line to buy the Apple iPad 2 is ridiculous, in Hong Kong, the tablet device is going for US$2,000. (The 64GB Apple iPad 2 Wi-Fi+3G is selling for US$829).
The Apple iPad 2 went on retail last Friday in US, and within a day (or two), Hong Kong has begun selling parallel imports of the popular tablet. The electronics stores in the Pearl of the Orient are selling the iPad 2 from HK$7,980 to HK$15,000 (US$1,024 to US$1,925). The most expensive model is the white 64GB iPad 2 with 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. According to reports, a shop with 100 Apple iPad 2s arrived on Sunday morning and all but 20 were sold by the end of the day.
Parallel imports are genuine products imported from other countries without the manufacturer's authorization.
