Anyone with an old iPhone can walk into an Apple Store and trade-in their existing device for a new one. An employee at the store will give the customer a value based on the condition of their device. If the value is acceptable the customer will be handed a gift card that they can only use for the purchase of a new iPhone. Apple only accepts old iPhones for now but apparently the company is going to open up its trade-in program to Android smartphones very soon.

This will be the first step of this kind that Apple has ever taken. It will encourage Android smartphone owners to come to its stores, hand in their devices, and pick up an iPhone instead. The procedure is expected to remain the same. Android smartphone owners will be given a value and if that’s accepted, a gift card, which will be used to buy a new iPhone.

They will be responsible for moving all important media and personal data off of the device. Employees at the Apple Store will only help them with transferring contacts from their Android device to their iPhone.

The report doesn’t say precisely when this new trade-in program will be launched. It is believed that Apple may flip the switch in the next couple of weeks.
