Apple discontinues BTO MacBook Pro 15 models, refresh likely next month

As had been anticipated, Apple has discontinued the BTO/CTO custom configurations of its MacBook Pro 15-inch variant, with a refresh expected to be shown off at the WWDC event next month.

The latest move indicates that Apple wants to do away with the old inventory before it reveals the new refreshed MacBook Pro 15 Retina model next month at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2015 in San Francisco between June 8-12.

Since about a month, the shipment times for the MacBook Pro 15-inch variant with the NVIDIA GeForce GT750M started slipping, leading to speculation that Apple could be planning on launching a refreshed model very soon. With most retailers now close to running out of the 15-inch MacBook Pro models, it is now almost confirmed that a new model will show up next month. While nobody knows for sure, it is expected that the refreshed 15-inch MacBook Pro models could come with the same Force Touch trackpad as the 12-inch MacBook and the 2015 MacBook Pro 13 models. Also expected are new processors based on Intel’s 5th Gen Broadwell microarchitecture and faster storage.
