Apple co-founder Steve Jobs passed away, aged 56

The technology world woke up to sad news that Apple co-founder, ex-CEO, Steve Jobs has passed away. He was aged 56. Jobs has had a long battle with pancreatic cancer, and stepped down as CEO in August this year. And it was only yesterday, the company launched their new iPhone 4S.

It is a sad day for the technology world as Apple's visionary and co-founder Steve Jobs has died on Wednesday, aged 56. The death was announced by the company which Jobs and his high school friend Stephen Wozniak started in 1976.

Jobs has had a long battle with pancreatic cancer and underwent surgery in 2004. He also received a liver transplant in 2009 and had taken three medical leaves of absence as Apple's chief executive officer. Jobs stepped down in August this year, though he took over as elected chairman position in the board of directors, and still involved in the company's affairs.

Eight years after founding Apple, Jobs has led the team that designed the Macintosh computer, a breakthrough in making personal computers easier to use. After a 12-year separation from the company, prompted by a bitter falling-out with his chief executive, John Sculley, he returned in 1997 to oversee the creation of one innovative digital device after another — the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad – and led the cultural transformation of how music, movies and mobile communications should be experienced in this time and age. In 2007, Jobs was named the most powerful person in business by Fortune Magazine, and later named the CEO of the decade by Fortune Magazine in 2009. In September 2011, Jobs was ranked No.17 on Forbes: The World's Most Powerful People.

Rest in peace Steve, you'll be dearly missed.
