Apple building new two story retail store in Shanghai

Apple is apparently building a new retail store in Shanghai, China. It already has three retail stores in the city. This two story outlet is located inside a mega mall that was opened recently.

The IAPM shopping mall in Shanghai is already home to a number of global luxury brands, its definitely a location where Apple’s outlet can fit in and attract scores of walk-in customers. Apple hasn’t listed the outlet on its Chinese website just yet, but the picture posted above clearly shows that work is already underway at this two story outlet. Almost 30 shops are planned to open in the 1.3 million square feet floor space of the IAPM mall. It will also house an IMAX theater and a supermarket. The mall is connected to the Shanghai International Commerce Centre and Shanghai ICC Residences.

Shanghai is one of the biggest cities in China, which already has three Apple stores. The company is considered to be making a push in the Chinese market, and to cater to new customers, it needs to have its own retail channels in place. Apple’s iPhone announcement, which takes place later today, is likely to feature the iPhone 5C, the company’s new smartphone that analysts believe will be a huge hit in China and India. Since Apple hopes to increase iPhone sales through its own retail channels, it really doesn’t come as a surprise to see the company plan another retail store in China at this crucial time.

Apple is also said to be working on increasing its presence in Japan. It has already earmarked a location to construct the second Apple retail store in Tokyo, its second in the city after 2006.
