Apple 16-inch MacBook Pro, More Pro Than Ever: New “Magic Keyboard”, 8TB SSD

With the latest 8-core processors, up to 64GB of RAM and next-generation graphics of up to 8GB of VRAM, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is Apple’s magnum opus in mobile computing.

Targeting professionals, the 16-inch MacBook Pro sports an all-new and revamped Magic Keyboard, returning to a more conventional scissor mechanism, enabling 1mm of key travel. Apple’s recent MacBooks had suffered from some issues with its revolutionary butterfly switches when debris got trapped in its difficult-to-disassemble mechanism.

Developers rejoice – the Magic keyboard also brings back the physical Escape key while retaining Touch Bar, remedying a major pain point with the MacBook which eschewed top-row keys for a full-length multi-purpose Touchbar. The arrow keys, essential for navigating spreadsheets and other documents, is also arranged in a full-sized inverted-“T” arrangement.

Improved on the 16-inch MacBook Pro is a 500 nit, factory calibrated P3 wide colour gamut display that boasts a 3072×1920 resolution and a higher pixel density of 226 ppi.

An improved thermal design further allow the 16-inch MacBook Pro to be the tool of choice for a wide range professional demands. A larger impeller with extended blades and bigger vents allow a 28 percent increase in airflow, and a 35 percent larger heat sink further improves dissipation for 12 more watts of power during intensive workloads.

Taking advantage of the thermal design are the latest 9th-generation 6- and 8-core Intel Core processors enable Turbo Boost up to 5.0 GHz, boasting 2.1 times the performance of the quad-core 15-inch MacBook Pro.

Compared to the previous-generation quad-core MacBook Pro, hardware improvements enable the application of complex edits 1.7 times faster in Photoshop, 2.1 times more Amp Designer plugins in Logic Pro X, 2.1 times faster simulation of dynamical systems in MATLAB and 1.8 times faster code compilation in Xcode.

Another highlight feature on the new 16-inch MacBook Pro is the new AMD Radeon Pro 5000M series graphics, the first 7nm process mobile discrete GPU. GDDR6 video memory and the option for 8GB VRAM allows customers to access 2.1 times faster graphics performance than the previous baseline and 0.8 times faster performance than the full specification MacBook Pro.

A longer-lasting 100Wh battery delivers an additional hour of battery life for up to 11 hours of web browsing or video playback.

The maximum configuration of 8TB of SSD storage gives flexibility for professionals to deal with large video, project files and asset libraries. The baseline standard storage on the 16-inch MacBook Pro has also been doubled from 512GB to 1TB.

A six-speaker sound system delivers higher detail and audio quality to appeal to musicians, audio engineers, podcasters and video editors. Leveraging the latest Apple-patented force-cancelling woofers position speaker drivers facing opposite directions to reduce vibrations that distort sound. This enables the bass to extend half an octave deeper, while a high-performance microphone array reduces hiss for improved signal-to-noise ratio comparable to professional digital microphones.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is available starting today starting at SGD 3,499 on the Apple website and Apple Store app. It will arrive in Apple Stores and Apple Authorised Resellers in the US later this week with in-store availability slated soon.

Along with the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the Mac Pro (starting USD 5,999) and Pro Display XDR (USD 4,999) will be available in December.
