AOC has launched a new 27-inch monitor with a Qi base station for wirelessly charging your mobile devices compatible with the standard. The new P2779VC features a 27-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution PLS panel and is targeted at home users mainly, but it could also be used for some light gaming on the side. With a 5ms grey-to-grey response time and a 60 Hz native refresh rate, the monitor will certainly not please more hardcore gamers.
PLS, for those of you who aren’t aware, is basically Samsung’s wide-viewing angle technology, similar to IPS. The technology allows for 178/178 degree viewing angles, identical to IPS panels. On the downside however, PLS panels are more or less identical to IPS panels in terms of contrast performance as well, although this shouldn’t be an issue for most buyers. AOC hasn’t revealed a lot about the panel, except that it offers true 8-bit color depth and a 20,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Display inputs include a single VGA and two HDMI 1.3 ports.
The main reason why you should consider this monitor is of course the Qi Charging pad on its base. The monitor will be able to wirelessly charge a number of popular smartphones and tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy S5/ S6 / S6 Edge, Google Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Motorola Droid Maxx, Nokia Lumia 920 through 1520, and a few others.
The new AOC P2779VC will launch in the US this month via Amazon, Best Buy, and Newegg with an MSRP of $250.
