The Angry Video Game Nerd gets immortalized in 8-Bit form in new AVGN: Adventures PC game

The Angry Video Game Nerd has risen to cult stardom to become one of the most-watched YouTubers of all time. The show features James Rolfe a.k.a. “The Nerd” as he plays the worst games of all time; from 8-bit classics to SNES and Genesis games, Rolfe takes shots and jabs at the most notoriously bad titles in gaming history.

The AVGN Show has since become a phenomenon within the gaming sphere, with a loyal following that spans across the entire globe.

Rolfe has ventured into countless games spanning over a hundred episodes, and has spawned a multitude of iconic characters who are just as outlandish as his on-screen performances.

Now the Nerd will be immortalized in game form with his very own themed platformer that takes players through an 8-bit adventure throughout the AVGN universe, with appearances from the iconic characters like Super Mega Death Christ, Satan, Kyle Justin, Mike Matei and countless others.

The game, which is stylized as Angry Video Game Nerd: Adventures, features the Nerd himself as the central character. Wielding your NES lightgun, players must face off against terrifying enemies across mock-ups of levels from infamously bad games including Silver Surfer and borrowed mechanics from legendary favorites as Mega Man and Castlevania.

This digital adventure is being developed by Freak Zone Games in association with Screw Attack Games, and is aimed at delivering the authentic “Nerd experience” balanced with classic platformer sensibilities. As anyone who grew up with the NES can tell you, old-school 2-D platformers are traumatizing and rewarding at the same time, and that’s the kind of magic that Freak Zone wants to tap for AVGN: Adventures.

“Influenced by retro classics Mega Man and Castlevania, Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures features the AVGN and friends as they blast their way through 10 levels of fun, fast paced 2D action based on the AVGN’s adventures in his online series.

With multiple playable characters, power ups, cameos galore, tons of secrets and more we’re making a game that all fans of video games will enjoy.

Yes, this is the official The Angry Video Game Nerd game :)”

Along with the official announcement, gamers who pre-order their copy before Sept. 5th will have the chance to be immortalized as a character in AVGN: Adventures. Full sweepstakes details can be found on the official AVGN Facebook page.

AVGN: Adventures is available for pre-purchase via Steam where it is marked down by 10%, selling for $13.49 and will launch next month its original price of $14.99.

If you haven’t caught up with the most recent Nerd videos, be sure to give them a look-see over at Cinemassacre. You’ll be glad you did.
