Android 4.3 for Moto X will arrive shortly, hints Motorola’s CEO

Some were a bit perplexed as to why Motorola isn’t shipping it’s Moto X handset with Android 4.3, but worry naught, because Motorola CEO, Dennis Woodside, has hinted that Google’s latest Jelly Bean will eventually grace the company’s new handset.

In an interview with AllThingsD, Woodside stated that Motorola couldn’t ship Android 4.3 with Moto X because developers didn’t have enough time to look at anything besides the new software’s codes itself.

Woodside didn’t divulge the approximate time frame in which Motorola will release Android 4.3 for the Moto X, but he ensured prospective buyers that “[they] (Motorola) are absolutely making it a priority.”  He backed up the promise by noting that Motorola has released updates to the latest Android for 85 percent of its devices that were released within the last two years.

The Moto X, which was officially announced last week, is said to be the product that will convey the new direction that Motorola wishes to head in.  According to Woodside, Motorola wants to build a product that caters to individuals, and not necessarily a single product for the masses.

“It’s not going to be the same approach that other companies might take,” he said.  “We are going to take some risks along the way.”

Along with Motorola’s highly touted X8 dedicated speech and contextual computing hardware, the Google-backed handset maker is hoping that personalization will win people over rather than the raw processing powers of multi-cores that is considered the norm in high-end Android smartphones.

When asked about Google’s purported backing of the Moto X with a mountain of marketing cash (~$500 million), Woodside did not deflect the question but instead admitted that the huge marketing dollars from Google is a part of their strategy to ensure the Moto X brand will succeed.

“We’re not going to hide under a bushel,” he said blatantly. “We have plenty of money to do the job.”
