A new report from HardwareBattle claims AMD is planning to launch the Radeon R9 490 and the R9 490X cards based on “Polaris” architecture in June this year.
While the cards will reportedly be officially launched by the end of June, they could be previewed at Computex 2016, where rival NVIDIA will be launching its first consumer graphics cards based on its next-gen “Pascal” architecture.
Interestingly, the report claims the Radeon R9 490X will be based on the Polaris 10 silicon. This does raise questions regarding the future of the Fury X. Will the Fury X remain AMD’s most powerful single GPU card after the R9 490X’s launch, or will the R9 490X snatch that title away from the Fury X?
The Radeon R9 490 series will take on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 cards that are expected to go on sale in July.
