AMD Radeon HD 6970 2GB

AMD’s latest Radeon HD 6970 graphics card has a similar appearance to the Radeon HD 6870, just longer.

The Radeon HD 6900 Series shares the same number of display outputs as the HD 6800 Series; there are two DVI outputs, one HDMI output and two mini DisplayPort outputs.

With two bridge connectors, the Radeon HD 6970 supports more than just 2-way CrossFire.

The Radeon HD 6970 has a rated TDP of 250W and hence the card sports one 8-pin and one 6-pin PCI Express power connector.

The back of the Radeon HD 6970 is covered by a simple backplate. It appears that the backplate is purely for aesthetics as there are no thermal pads underneath.

Pictured above is Sapphire’s Radeon HD 6950, which is essentially an AMD reference card.

This time round, both the Radeon HD 6970 and HD 6950 are the same length and share the same cooler.

In fact, both cards have the same number of display outputs, and use the same printed circuit board (PCB).

The only difference between the Radeon HD 6970 and HD 6950 (externally) are the PCI Express power connectors. The HD 6970 has one 8-pin and one 6-pin, while the Radeon HD 6950 with its lower TDP, has two 6-pin power connectors instead.
