Amazon’s UK Store: “Virtual Reality Is Coming”

Oculus, PlayStation VR and HTC Vive

In a site recently released by Amazon.co.uk, it appears that virtual reality experiences and hardware might find a home on Amazon’s site.

According to the page titled, Virtual Reality is Coming,

Immerse yourself in brand new worlds like never before thanks to an emerging generation of Virtual Reality (VR) headsets and experiences. Be the first to know about the latest news and developments right here at the Amazon Virtual Reality Hub.

We’ll keep you updated on the crucial UK release dates, VR games and head mounted displays at Amazon.co.uk — the home of Virtual Reality.

This is Reality

Along with links related to PSVR, Oculus and HTC Vive, Amazon included an FAQ page that goes into detail what virtual reality is all about.

In regards to pricing virtual reality on Amazon.co.uk, the FAQ page states the following:

How much will Virtual Reality cost?

We don’t know yet. Some of the costs involved, however, will include buying a VR-ready PC and camera for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, a PlayStation 4 console and camera for PlayStation VR and a headset to mount your phone for the mobile VR options. On top of that, there will be the extra outlay for the games or applications to run on your Virtual Reality system. Prices will also depend on the type of Virtual Reality experience you’re after. Mobile, which may need less associated kit, could provide the most cost-effective way of experiencing VR, while customers looking for a more immersive experience might look to PlayStation VR or Oculus.

There is no direct indication how much anything will cost at this point, despite us already knowing how much the Oculus Rift CV1 will be.

Towards the bottom of the page, there is a place to sign up to receive email news regarding your platform of choice.

It seems as though Amazon is simply using this page a placeholder for VR software and hardware that is coming to market.  Nothing indicates that Amazon is jumping into VR world with their own development.
