Xiaomi’s recent budget device the Redmi 2 has been very well received so far and it really is one of the best budget Android smartphones in the market. The company is now reportedly looking at launching yet another budget smartphone, this time with an even more affordable price-tag.
According to Chinese website Mydrivers, Xiaomi is currently developing a new smartphone that will be positioned below the Redmi 2. The website also posted an alleged image of handset, along with its possible specifications.
Mydrivers claims the smartphone will feature a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 HD display, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of onboard memory. These specifications are almost identical to the Redmi 2. The cameras setup sounds similar as well, with an 8MP shooter at the back and a 2MP front-facing camera for selfies. Where it will differ from the Redmi 2 is the chipset. Instead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64-bit chipset, the new budget Xiaomi will be equipped with the LCI1860C quad-core Cortex-A7 chipset with Mali T628MP2 GPU. The chipset also includes an integrated LTE modem with support for maximum download speeds up to 150Mbps.
As can be seen from the leaked image, it seems to be very similar to the Redmi 2 as far as the design goes. If the report is accurate, then Xiaomi could have yet another winner in its hands, especially with the rumored $65 price-tag.
