Xiaomi shocked everyone with the announcement of the Mi Mix at its media event held last month. However, despite boasting of an unprecedented screen-to-body ratio of around 91% (according to Xiaomi), the phablet may still prove to be a bit too large for some users. To cater to a wider user base, Xiaomi is apparently working on a smaller version of the Mi Mix, with a 5.5-inch display.
Two alleged photos of the smaller Mi Mix have been posted on Weibo recently, comparing it against the larger Mi Mix with a 6.4-inch display. As you can see, the smaller 5.5-inch Mi Mix appears to be significantly smaller than its larger sibling. And since we expect it to boast of a similarly high screen-to-body ratio as the 6.4-inch Mi Mix, it should be much smaller than other 5.5-inch screen devices in the hand.
As for specs, it is rumored that the 5.5-inch version too will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM. It is also expected to include 64GB of onboard storage, which is slightly disappointing as the larger Mi Mix comes in 128GB and 256GB storage variants. Rest of the specs haven’t been rumored yet, but we expect the smaller version to be similar to the 6.4-inch model in most areas, except perhaps the battery capacity.
Codenamed “Nano”, the 5.5-inch Mi Mix is expected to be made official by the year-end. If the device seen in the images above is indeed real, we can expect more leaks to surface soon.
