ESET Smart Security 4.0

ESET unveiled the latest all-in-one security solution for desktop systems in Hong Kong recently. Apart from knowing the benefits of ESET Smart Security 4, we managed to speak to the key people in ESET and find out more about their vision and what do they have to offer for the industry.

VR-Zone was invited to the launch of ESET Smart Security 4 at Langham Place Hotel in Hong Kong by Version 2 Limited, the sole distributor of ESET products in Singapore. After the launch, we had the opportunity to speak with the key people in ESET and Version 2 Limited.

Security conscious consumers will be pleased to know that the latest complete protection solution is available – ESET Smart Security 4: A lightweight powerful anti-virus, anti-spyware, personal firewall all in-one.

ESET is an IT security company headquartered in Slovakia and currently has 5 offices worldwide. Their flagship product is ESET NOD32, a fast, lightweight anti-virus software that is built based on ESET’s award-winning ThreatSense® Engine.

In 2007, ESET released Smart Security – A complete internet security software suite which offers users a all-in-one package to deal with the ever changing landscape of internet security threats.

The latest version promises a faster, smarter engine, together with new features.

What’s new? 

A smarter scanning engine – Now scans HTTPS and POPS protocols.

USB Storage Security Scanning and Control – This greatly enhance file and system security in corporate environments where USB thumb drives is a source of security concerns. 

Self-Defense – Malicious code these days are capable of disabling system security or anti virus software. ESET Smart Security 4 protects itself by preventing itself from being disabled.

Better support for popular email clients – Smart Security 4 is now able to integrate with popular Email clients like Mozilla Thunderbird, Windows Live! Mail.

Time-saving firewall – The new self-learning mode creates rules based on user behaviour.

Powerful System tools – It comes equipped with ESET SysRescue and SysInspector. SysRescue allows users to create a bootable media capable of booting an infected system while SysInspector allow users to view current system processes, registry entries, startup processors and many other core system parameters. Under the event of any suspicious activity, user will be able to generate log for further analysis.

A toast for a successful launch

Apart from the speed and security enhancements, ESET Smart Security 4 also boasts several usability improvements: Energy-Saving battery mode which extends battery life without compromising security, an inclusion of Real-Time action and statistic chart which allows users to view system resource usage in real time. Gamers will be glad to know that ESET engineers took into consideration that any security notifications would disrupt a user’s gaming experiences: Notifications are hidden when the system is in fullscreen mode.

The whole package also boast to only consumes less than 60 Megabytes of memory when loaded into the system. It is definitely a factor that consumers should look into when considering a security package – Users will be able to perform their day to day tasks without a noticeable lag in their system while a scan is going on.

ESET Smart Security 4 will be available in Singapore from August.

The RRP is SGD 60 (inclusive of 7% GST) for a 1-user, 1-year license.
