AirSelfie: Did Someone Say “Flying Drone Camera”?

What do you get when you marry a drone and a camera? You get a nifty gadget which does not only fly and hover in mid-air but one that is able to capture panoramic pictures like none other. On this week’s ‘Crowdfunding Campaign Of The Week’, we feature AirSelfie. Like its name suggests, AirSelfie is a drone of sorts with a camera attached and integrated in your handphone cover! Yes, you read that right, it is so compact that it can fit at the back of your Smartphone.

Perfect for the selfie addict, the AirSelfie is equipped with a 5MP HD video capable camera and weighing just a 52g – perhaps the world’s most portable flying drone camera in its class to date. Built with aeronautical grade aluminium, the AirSelfie is definitely built to stick around and survive some knocks or bumps along the way. Bid goodbye to tripods and selfie sticks which can sometimes be more of a bane than a gain. With AirSelfie you get to direct your image while being in the photograph, no more running up and down or setting timers which make everyone holding awkward smiles for extended periods of time.

Its features are fully controlled by its companion mobile application, which is compatible for both Android and iOS users. The application gives you full control of your AirSelfie, from controlling its position via a virtual joystick to programming it to hover at a position and capturing of the image. Once any image is captured, it would be immediately downloaded to your device via Wi-Fi connection. The gadget is built with an internal memory space of 4GB, capable of storing your multi-shot images and HD videos. Capturing the perfect family event video or couple selfie shots has never been more convinient or sleek.

With all that is being said, if there was one slightly negative attribute about the AirSelfie, it would definitely have to be its short in-flight time. Given the device’s small in-built battery capacity of 260mAh, the AirSelfie can only stay in flight for a maximum of 3 minutes at any given time. So make sure everyone is in place before operating the AirSelfie or have an additional portable battery pack near by to refuel it, after every picture taking opportunity.

Availability and Price

With a gadget as brilliant as the AirSelfie, it does not come as a surprise that it has already been fully funded – more than 10 times its funding amount to be exact! An AirSelfie pledge will set you back SG$339 (€224). This will get you 1 Air Selfie, 1 phone cover (compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Apple iPhone 6 and 7) which has an in-built power bank and a charging cable (microUSB). International shipping is included in the aforementioned price. All orders for this pledge look to be fulfilled by March 2017.
