Age of Empires: Definitive Edition launching in October, AoE 2 and AoE 3 also getting remasters

At Gamescom, Microsoft announced that Age of Empires: Definitive Edition will be releasing on October 19. The first game in the storied RTS franchise is getting a makeover with better visuals, 4K support, and a slew of new gameplay mechanics.

Alongside the announcement, Microsoft has detailed a series of new features coming to the Definitive Edition, including:

  • Attack Move​
  • Rally Points Basic
  • Rally Points Contextual (Intelligent Villagers)
  • Grid default key layout ​
  • Select Idle Military
  • Select Idle Villagers
  • 250-300 population cap
  • Unit queueing
  • Right-click mouse scroll

Microsoft also announced that Age of Empires II and III will be getting the Definitive Edition treatment as well. There’s no further details on when the editions will launch, but you will be able to pick up Age of Empires: Definitive Edition starting October 19. The game is exclusive to Windows 10, so you’ll have to buy it from the Windows Store and not Steam.
