Ads coming to Instagram in the coming months

Instagram announced on its blog earlier today that ads will make their way onto users’ feeds in the coming months.

Instagram, which was bought by Facebook last year for $1 billion, boasts a total userbase of 150 million. In a bid to monetize and become a sustainable business, it announced that advertisements will be rolling out to users in the United States in the coming months. In the blog post, it said the ads will be “a small number of beautiful, high-quality photos and videos from a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community.”

Users will be able to hide ads and provide feedback as to why they disabled the ad. Instagram hasn’t mentioned when international users will start seeing ads in their feeds, but it looks like the service wants to take things slow following its Terms of Service debacle last year.
