Adam has company: Notion Ink quietly launches new 10-inch tab in India

It’s been close to three years since Indian-based Notion Ink introduced the Adam tablet to the world (how time flies, eh?), promising about two dozen things more than it ended up delivering.

Never heard of the Adam? Don’t worry, you didn’t miss much. Yet the powers that be over at Notion Ink (no, the company is not bankrupt… yet) seem to be under the (hallucinogen-induced) impression the world is ready for another of their slates. Scratch that, two new slates.

A second-gen Adam (please, please, please dub it Cain or Abel) has been making the rumor rounds for several months now, being reportedly prepped for a commercial launch just ahead of the holiday season. But first we have to welcome the MB-OX 10.1 in the never more challenging and competitive Android arena.

Aside from carrying a lackluster name and for now being up for grabs only in India, this 10-inch thing comes with a bevy of other drawbacks, including a meager 1,280 x 800 pixels resolution screen, 8 GB of on-board storage and middling Cortex A9-based dual-core 1.5 GHz processor.

On the plus side, the new Notion Ink tab is quite the looker, rocking an aluminum shell, there’s microSD support, a spacious not too tiny 6,000 mAh battery beneath the hood, HDMI connectivity and even 3G support via a USB dongle. Oh, and dual cameras as well, though they’re not exactly the greatest, each boasting a 2 MP sensor.

On the software side of things, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean runs the show, whereas the already mentioned modest SoC is at least paired with 1 gig of RAM, making the spec sheet on the whole… acceptable.

Almost tolerable when weighing in the $175 price point (INR 10,999). Still, it’s probably for the better if Notion Ink were to keep MB-OX’s availability local, don’t you agree?
