According to 9T05Mac sources, the upcoming fourth-generation Apple TV hardware will be priced at either $149 or $199 and will begin shipping this October.
Since the new model will be significantly more expensive than the previous-gen Apple TV, Apple plans to continue selling the third-gen model as an entry-level model at $69. The newer model will come with a similar design to the current model, but will be thicker and wider by a small margin.
In terms of software, the new model will bring several new features such as Siri support, a new remote control, App Store access with a dedicated software development kit for developers, and an all-new UI. When Apple’s streaming TV service launches next year, the new Apple TV will require logins to cable networks in order to unlock available content.
Apple is expected to unveil the new Apple TV box at its September 9th event where it will also unveil the new iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus.
