2015 brings new records for the App Store

Its in a league of its own.


The Apple App Store is one of the biggest app marketplaces with hundreds of thousands of applications available for the company’s various devices. For developers it is a great source of revenue. Every year Apple details just how much developers have earned by selling their applications on the App Store and its most recent announcement the company has detailed some new records that have been set in just the first few days of this year.

According to Apple the first week of January 2015 set a new record for billings from App Store customers around the world. These customers collectively spent almost $500 million on applications and in-app purchases. New Year’s Day was the single biggest day ever in App Store sales history.

App Store had already had a record breaking 2014. Billings jumped by 50 percent and developers generated around $10 billion in revenue from apps. Up till now Apple has paid developers a total of $25 billion for app and games sales.

It was back in 2008 when the App Store was first launched by Apple. Since this it has grown to play host to over 1.4 million apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It is available in 155 countries around the world.
