12-inch MacBook Air production reportedly ramped up

Q1 2015 release expected.

It has been rumored for the past couple of years now that Apple is working on an entirely new MacBook Air model. Currently these notebooks don’t have a fanless design and a Retina display, even though this was expected in the 2014 refresh, but it just didn’t happen. Instead it was reported multiple times that a new MacBook Air will be launched that is going to have a fanless design and a Retina display.

Recently some more information about this new MacBook Air surfaced online. It is now believed to have a 12-inch display, a super thin design as the conventional USB, Lightning and MagSafe ports are all believed to be absent, instead a reversible USB port will be used for power and data transfer. Even the clickable part of the trackpad may be removed.

As per the latest reports Quanta Computer, the supplier Apple has tapped for producing the 12-inch MacBook Air, has now ramped up production of this notebook. It doesn’t come as a surprise, if true, because Apple is reportedly aiming for a Q1, 2015 release and this is about the right time for production to pick up.

No word as yet from Apple on the existence of a 12-inch MacBook Air, so no details are available about the pricing and configurations.
