Synology launches budget DiskStation DS416j

Synology DS416j

Synology has launched the latest 4-bay offering in its budget series, the DS416j. The NAS features a dual-core Marvell Armada 88F6828 CPU clocked at 1.3GHz, with 512MB RAM. While it can’t do 4K transcoding, like the beefier DS716+, it does offer DLNA, through which you can stream content with ease to a variety of devices.

The highlights include:

  • Dual-core CPU, delivering high performance exceeding 112 MB/sec reading and 101 MB/sec writing
  • DLNA Certified and support Apple TV, Chromecast, and MiBox – stream photos, music, and videos stored in DS416j to computers, mobile devices, TVs, DLNA devices, and stereos
  • Consumes only 21.6 watts in full operation and as little as 12.75 watts in HDD hibernation
  • Thoughtful four-level brightness control for front LEDs

The Synology DS416j also comes with one Gigabit Ethernet port, one USB 3.0 port, and a USB 2.0 port. There’s also DiskStation Manager, which is the most robust solution available for NAS units today. You can now pick up the DiskStation DS416j for SGD450, or $310.
