10.5” iPad Pro with A10X SoC rumored to launch in Q1 2017

Taiwanese publication DigiTimes in a new report claims Apple is going to expand its iPad Pro family with a new 10.5” model early next year. This is not the first time that a 10.5” iPad model has been rumored though, popular KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had earlier suggested in an investor note that Apple is looking at launching a new 10.5-inch iPad model next year.

The DigiTimes report suggests both the new 10.5-inch iPad Pro as well as the second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro will be powered by Apple’s “A10X” SoC. As revealed by leaked benchmarks a few weeks back, the A10X will be a significant upgrade over the A10 chip powering the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in terms of performance.

The publication’s supply chain sources say Apple could ship around 2 million units of the new 10.5-inch iPad in the first quarter of 2017, while total shipments for the entire year could reach as many as 5 to 6 million units.

The new 10.5-inch model will not be the only new iPad Pro model to debut next year, as Apple is expected to introduce a “low-cost” second-gen 9.7” iPad Pro as well as the second-gen 12.9-inch iPad Pro model with a few major changes under the hood.
