Next, we move on to test the performance of the card in OpenGL. The
graphically intensive First-person shooter Doom 3 is the perfect candidate:
We first test it out at High Quality settings:
We can see from the performance chart that Doom 3 at high quality settings is
rather memory-bandwidth hungry.
The 256Mb card is actually faster at 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024 due to the
higher memory clock speed.
The 512Mb card takes over the 256Mb card when the resolution is cranked to
1600 x 1200. Even so, the difference between the 2 cards are negligible and not
Next, we tested the card at Ultra High Quality settings:
We see that even with Ultra High Quality settings, the 512Mb card only takes
over at 1600 x 1200. And like at high quality settings, the difference between
the 2 cards are negligible.
**Note: We find that both cards handle Doom 3 very well even at 1280 x 1024
with Ultra High Quality settings. Definitely a playable setting. It is a bit
jerky when running at 1600 x 1200 during intensive gun fights.
