Wikipad to hit retail market on June 11 for $249 price point

The portable Android-powered Wikipad gaming tablet has just received an official release date, and will launch in the U.S. on June 11, 2013 for a price point of $249.99.

This news comes shortly after the 7-inch gaming tablet passed FCC inspection a few days ago, hinting at a possible upcoming launch date soon after.

The Wikipad device is touted as being optimized for both gaming and computing, offering the entertainment of a premium handheld gaming system while combining the convenience and processing power of a tablet.

Powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the Wikipad features a 7-inch 16:10 display with a powerful Tegra 3 quad-core processor and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera. The Wikipad also features Bluetooth 4.0 support, a GPS, gyroscope, compass and an accelerometer.

The device can also be separated from its fastened dual-analog controller, allowing users to enjoy the tablet without the controller getting in the way.

The Wikipad’s confirmed release date inspires somewhat of a relief, as the portable gaming tablet has seen its fair share of production difficulties with various delays and technical complications.

Wikipad Games

While the device is aimed at gaming, details on the Wikipad’s library of games is somewhat scarce. Wikipad Inc. originally had a deal with the online gaming service OnLive, yet OnLive wasn’t mentioned in the Wikipad’s official press release.

The gaming tablet will assuredly have an array of games, however, as PlayStation Mobile will be offering support and users can still access titles on Google Play and Nvidia’s TegraZone. Along with these gaming services, users will have access to Big Fish Instant Games‘ cloud-based library of more than 250 casual titles.

Wikipad Inc. has created a wall of gaming titles that are supported by the device on their official website, so be sure to check it out if you’d like to see a complete list of the titles that are playable on the Wikipad.

The Wikipad is slated to release on the retail market on June 11, 2013 for $249.99. For more information, please visit the device’s official website.
