Taipei based VIA Technologies has launched the VIA VL810 SuperSpeed Hub Controller, the world’s first “integrated single chip solution that supports the higher transfer rates of the new USB 3.0 specification”.

VIA VL810 Chip

The new chip is capable of a maximum transfer rate of 5Gbps (USB
3.0/SuperSpeed USB) and fully compatible with USB 2.0/1.1 devices.
Built on superior 80nm CMOS technology, the “power efficient” chip
features an enhanced interface between external devices and host
controller, and lower power consumption. Interested parties can catch
the new VIA VL810 SuperSpeed Hub Controller in action at CES 2010 in
Las Vegas.

“The growing emphasis on high-definition multimedia content is placing
increasing demands on current data transfer technologies,” said Richard
Brown, Vice President of Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. “SuperSpeed
USB not only makes transferring HD video files, high pixel count
digital photos, and backing up hard drives quick and easy, but VIA’s
new hub controller allows consumers to get the most out of the
technology by expanding the capacity of PC systems.”
