Ubisoft brings retro sci-fi action to XBLA & PSN with Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

Ubisoft's retro sci-fi FPS spin-off Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon has finally been given an official release date and will drop on May 1, 2013 on XBLA, PSN and PC.

Ubisoft has recently pulled back the curtain on the anticipated retro throwback spin-off Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, which was officially announced as a downloadable release for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Blood Dragon takes players on a journey to the year 2007, which happens to be filled with 80's-style neon lighting, cyborgs, and dinosaurs that shoot lasers out of their eyes. The first-person shooter utilizes classic retro elements that pay homage to many different genres all at once, and even features a cyborg protagonist that's shares the likeness of Terminator's Michael Biehn.

"You are Sergeant Rex Colt: Mark IV Cyber Commando. The year is 2007 and Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war which erupted in the 90s. The east vs. west conflict has raged for generations, and humanity continues to struggle to progress after a disastrous decade.

New paths for peace must be found, and the US cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. Your mission is to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on."

Blood Dragon takes gamers on a zany and wild adventure through the VHS futuristic sci-fi era, making use of intense FPS action and hilarious nods to classic pop-culture references of the 80's.

Ubisoft has also announced that Blood Dragon has been offered as part of AMD's Never Settle: Reloaded promotion, where gamers can score their own free copy of the game when they purchase select AMD Radeon graphics cards and redeem their promo code.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will be released on May 1, 2013 as a downloadable title via the Xbox LIVE Arcade Marketplace, PlayStation Network, and PC. For more information please visit the game's official website.
