T-Mobile roadmap hints at July 17 release date for Nokia Lumia 925 and Sony Xperia Z

Is T-Mobile on a roll or what? The (still) number four wireless network in the States has ditched contracts not long ago, is planning to launch LTE-Advanced by the end of 2013 and might be the first to sell two very exciting phones – Nokia’s Lumia 925 and Sony’s Xperia Z.

According to an unofficial T-Mo roadmap, leaked by TmoNews and therefore very trustworthy, both the Lumia 925 and Xperia Z will make their commercial debuts with the “Uncarrier” come July 17.

The two high-end gadgets might be no match for Samsung’s Galaxy S4, HTC’s One or especially that new Sony Xperia Z Ultra in many ways, but on the whole they’re still among the best of the best. Remember, the Xperia Z rocks a water and dustproof body and sports a 5-inch Full HD screen, while the Lumia 925 comes with a high-quality rear camera sporting Carl Zeiss optics and optical image stabilization.

In terms of pricing, the only intel we have concerns the Lumia. Allegedly, the thing will cost $99.99 upfront “for well qualified customers”, plus 24 monthly payments of $20 each. That means you’ll pay a total price of $579.99 for the Windows Phone, which doesn’t exactly sound right since the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One cost exactly as much.

As far as the Xperia Z is concerned, no one seems very keen to speculate on pricing yet, so I’ll give it a whirl. My guesstimate is the 5-incher will also sell for $100 upfront plus 24 payments of 20 bucks. Why? Simply because T-Mo is the first US carrier to get the phone.

The problem is most mobile tech fans don’t care about that and instead simply want to get a fair price for what a device offers. And with all due respect, the Xperia Z and Lumia 925 are not worth as much dough as the GS4 and HTC One. Oh, well, maybe Magenta will get that too before it’s too late.
