Sony’s Fergal Gara: “E3 was a good day, but it’s not over yet”

After a great showing at last week’s E3 conference, Sony’s UK head Fergal Gara has mentioned that they need to continue the momentum till the day of the PlayStation 4’s launch and beyond.

Sony has won the first round in the battle of the next-gen consoles. Sony started with a statement saying that the PlayStation 4 does not need an always-on Internet connection, followed by news that games can easily be shared among friends. Then came the final pricing of the PlayStation 4, which, at $399, is $100 less than the Xbox One. Sony’s E3 keynote clearly signified its intent to take the fight to Microsoft this year.

In an interview with MCV, Sony’s Fergal Gara said that the E3 conference was just one good day and that “winning is determined by a much longer timescale”. He went on to add, “We were very pleased with how our messages went down at E3. We aim to be the best for gamers, and this was a key step in that direction.”

The PlayStation 4 has managed to gain many more pre-orders as the Xbox One thanks to its strong showing at the E3 conference, and Gara insists that this is just the beginning.  He mentioned, “E3 is important for early momentum and generating pre-orders. But it is only one step along. We feel we had a good day but there is loads more hard work to do, and we are focused on that.”

When asked about the veiled remarks aimed at Microsoft during the conference, he said that more of that is to come in the future. He went on to add, “My UK and Ireland team is under the most competitive pressure in Europe. So if we want to be more successful, we have to earn it. We are have to be more driven and focused.”

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is set to be available in stores from the holiday season, and pre-orders have started on Amazon and other online retailers.
