Sony Xperia Z Ultra to cost $800 in Hong Kong, $900 in Taiwan

Expected out in September on a global wide scale, Sony’s latest crown jewel and possibly the best smartphone in Android history… so far, the Xperia Z Ultra, is likely to land earlier in a couple of Asian countries.

Namely, Hong Kong is confirmed to get it by the end of July, while Taiwan will probably follow in August. The thing is tech-savvy folks around those parts will have to pay quite a lot for the privilege of getting the Xperia Z Ultra before everybody else.

In Hong Kong, the official recommended retail price for a SIM-free, unlocked version of the Z Ultra with HSPA+ speeds is 6,198 HKD. That’s roughly 800 US bucks ($799, to be more exact). Taiwanese Android fanatics will however have it even worse, since ePrice says the 6.4-incher will go for 26,900 TWD, or $899.

True, the price point in Taiwan can technically still be filed under speculation, but it’s very rare ePrice’s educated guesses don’t come true. In which case I’m going to ask you to think long and hard before committing to this slender “monster”.

It’s not that the Z Ultra is not worth all that dough. After all, it’s a jewel from a design standpoint, it’s one of the world’s first ever phones to come packing Snapdragon 800 heat, plus it features things like a Full HD Triluminos display, 2 GB RAM and 3,050 mAh battery.

But looking ahead, I wouldn’t want you to be hasty, splash the cash on this and then regret your decision. Remember, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 is coming, LG’s G2 also, not to mention Sony also has one other big ace up its sleeve – the Xperia i1, aka Honami.
