Sony Xperia Tablet Z receives AOSP support, ahead of international launch

Wait what? That device hasn't even launched internationally! But that didn't stop the developers at Sony to port AOSP (Android Open Source Project) to the upcoming Sony Xperia Tablet Z.

They belong to the same family. They pack nearly identical specifications. They even share almost identical names. Then why shouldn't they be treated to the same developer love? Meet the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, the latest Sony device to receive an AOSP port (Android Open Source Port). If you've been living under a rock and want to ask why this makes any difference, well this AOSP release is different. It's for a yet-to-be (internationally) released device.

Sony's first product under its AOSP project was the 2012 flagship Xperia S. After the massive community support it received (as a result) and being voted at XDA Developers Forum as the most developer friendly OEM, Sony Mobiles proved themselves yet again when they released AOSP for their 2013 flagship Xperia Z earlier last month. Well, things just got a little bit more interesting with the release of AOSP for the Xperia Tablet Z.

The code has been made publicly available via GitHub, and Sony's blog explicitly expresses how excited they are to see what developers do with this code (well, we are too). The post at Sony blog does emphasize that the code is hardly ready to be used as a daily driver, as that isn't the intention anyway, and that it startsoff in the state that the Xperia Z started off with.
