Sony Xperia Tablet Z is slim but powerful

The Xperia Tablet Z might be exactly the device that will get Sony back into the swing of everything Android in 2013.

Sony’s Xperia Tablet Z is a 10.1-inch device that boasts nice specs as well as a slim and classy design profile.  Underneath the rectangular exterior lies a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8064 quad-core, 2GB of RAM, and 4G LTE connectivity for selected models.  An Exmore R-enabled 8.1MP camera on the back is a plus for people who like taking pictures with tablets, and the audio enhancements using Sony’s “S-Force” virtual surround sound system will be an interesting novelty feature.

Sporting the “non-standard” resolution of 1920×1200, the Xperia Z Tablet will give users plenty of screen real estate—though, Google’s Nexus 10 (along with a few other devices) is still the mainstream tablet to beat if ultra-high resolution is what one is going for.  Weighing in at 495g and measuring 6.9mm in thickness, this tablet is one of the thinness 10-incher announced to date.  A 6000mAh battery will supply the juice, and NFC capability as well as microSD will also be gracing Sony’s next-gen Android toy.

Sony claims that the Xperia Tablet Z is both dustproof and waterproof, but we’ll see how much punishment it can actually take once Sony decides to launch it stateside.
