Sony refreshes VAIO laptops for spring 2012


Sony has unveiled a new color for their popular VAIO Z series laptop as well as having an optional built-in LTE mobile broadband, for the support of 4G data service. On top of that, selected models have also been refreshed for this quarter.


Sony VAIO Z Series
The updated Z Series now comes with a new Carbon Silver model on top of t the existing choices of Carbon Black, Carbon Gold, and Premium Carbon Black. It also offers optional built-in LTE mobile broadband which supports 4G data service, and is equipped with the latest second generation Intel processors ranging from Core i5 (and higher) and RAID 0 solid state drives. Price starts from US$1949.99 and includes the Power Media Dock drive for users who want additional ports or external displays.

Sony VAIO S Series
The 13- and 15-inch S Series feature standard voltage processors, Hybrid Graphics, optical drives (and Blu-ray Disc options), backlit keyboards and the VAIO, ASSIST and WEB hardware buttons for launching Media Gallery software, VAIO Care support software and access to the web without full boot-up Windows. In addition, both the 13- and 15-inch Sony laptops come with options for solid state drives in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB and feature QUAD RAID 0 technology for enhanced performance.

Both incorporate second genertaion Intel processors, up to Core i7, Hybrid Graphics with either an AMD Radeon HD 6470M (512MB VRAM) or AMD Radeon HD 6630M (1GB VRAM). The larger model will come with a 15.5-inch Full high definition display (1920 x 1080) with IPS technology for improved image quality and viewing angles. The 13-inch S Series has a starting price of US$799 while the 15-inch S Series will start at US$979 and includes the Full HD display and Intel Core i5 processor. Both models will be available starting early February.

Sony VAIO E Series

The refreshed E Series is designed for students and everyday users and come with the latest second generation Intel Core processors. It is available in four colors – Glacier White, Charcoal Black, Midnight Blue and Blush Pink – with a unique textured design, and in 14- and 15-inch sizes. On top of that, the E Series also features Intel Wireless Display for select models, VAIO, ASSIST and WEB hardware buttons, optional keyboard skins and optional dedicated NVIDIA graphics with up to 1GB VRAM. Pricing starts at US$499 for the 14-inch model and US$459 for the 15-inch.
