The main menu is easy to navigate and provides various options such as phone settings, camera, contacts, messaging and entertainment. The phone is not very responsive sometimes like when we disconnect it from the PC and turning it on for the first time – we have to wait a while before the phone resumes operation normally.
In phone settings -> connectivity, you can turn on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth as well as synchronize data with the PC. The Wi-Fi setup is relatively easy. Once you turned it on, it will detect the wireless signal in the vicinity and let you select which one to connect to.
However, it failed to connect to our secure wireless network with hidden SSID despite several tries and correct network settings.
It is slightly tedious to navigate the web browser using the navigation key, especially when the entire web page is wider than the phone’s display. Thanks to the smart-fit feature which you can enable in the browser settings, this helps to format the web page to fit the screen for optimized viewing. Instead of scrolling laterally, you just need to scroll down to view the text and images which would appear on the right of the page.
We browsed to youtube.com and playback a HD trailer of the movie “Australia” on the G705 and noted the overall video quality to be good, but not outstanding. It also failed to play our divx and xvid test videos for some reasons.
On the main menu is an interesting PlayNow option. For those who do not know, PlayNow is a download service for you to preview and buy ringtones, games and images conveniently. Simply select the ringtone or game you want (note that the price is in SGD), click the Buy option to purchase it and download to your phone. You do need to have an Internet connection first to use the service.
