Sony Ericsson PlayNow

Good news for Sony Ericsson mobile phone users. The company has just announced the availability of PlayNow™ kiosks at their stores for you to conveniently browse and purchase mobile entertainment content including full-length movies, music and games.

Sony Ericsson has announced the expansion of its PlayNow™ service to PlayNow™ kiosks in Asia. The PlayNow™ kiosk is the world’s first-of-its-kind, in-store mobile entertainment content service that allows mobile users to download full-length movies, TV series, gaming titles and thousands of DRM-free music directly onto their mobile phones. Asia Pacific is the first region to roll out PlayNow™ kiosks.

According to the manufacturer, there will be PlayNow™ kiosks at more than 80 Sony Ericsson stores throughout Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore during the first phase of the rollout. Users can easily browse and purchase mobile entertainment content through the touchscreen-enabled PlayNow™ kiosks.

To download the content, simply purchase a smartcard available at the Sony Ericsson stores, connect your mobile phone to the download station, select the entertainment content you want to download, and the transfer will complete in a matter of minutes.

At launch, the PlayNow™ kiosks will feature full-length blockbuster movies, TV series, gaming titles and more than 23,000 DRM-free music tracks for users to choose from.

For content that is customised for this region, the selected movies will be available for download on the same day as its local DVD release date , and PlayNow™ kiosks will also offer a wide range of music tracks from local talents.

As a result of a content licensing partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), the latest movies, TV series and mobile games distributed by SPE will be made available on the PlayNow™ kiosks. The movies available include Will Smith’s blockbuster, Hancock, Adam Sandler comedy, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, and the card-counting thriller 21. TV series will consist of popular dramas such as Cashmere Mafia and The Tudors while mobile games include James Bond’s movie, Quantum of Solace and Spider-Man 3.

PlayNow™ kiosk is an innovative alternative to purchasing mobile entertainment content through Over-The-Air service for Asian consumers and offer the convenience of speedy downloads of bulk content at affordable prices; A 50-track compilation comes at just SGD9.99.
