Snapdragon 800-powered Samsung Galaxy S4 Active spotted at GFXBench

Well, looks like another Galaxy S4 variant will soon be joining the party, this time a Galaxy S4 Active powered by the Snapdragon 800 processor and headed to Samsung’s home country.

The Koreans already have exclusive access to a Galaxy S4 powered by the beastly Snapdragon 800 processor, and now it looks like Samsung is bringing the rugged and water-resistant variant of the device at par in processing power as well, as the Galaxy S4 Active, running on a Snapdragon 800 CPU, has been spotted at GFXBench.

The phone is listed with the model number SHV-E470S, which tells us which market it is headed to. The benchmark detected a quad-core processor at 2.3GHz with Adreno 330 GPU in an MSM8974 chipset, aka the Snapdragon 800. Its graphical performance is, as expected, at the top of the list, beating Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra by a couple of points and walking hand-in-hand with the Galaxy S4.

In addition to the formidable increase in computing power, this Galaxy S4 Active will no doubt support the new LTE-A (LTE-Advanced) networks that went live in the country recently, to offer data speeds of up to 150Mbps. Other specs should remain the same, including 2GB of RAM, 5-inch 1080p LCD display, 8-megapixel camera, 16GB of storage with a microSD slot, 2600 mAh battery, and Android 4.2.2. Its ability to take pictures underwater should stay intact as well.

While the Snapdragon 800 variant of this rugged handset will only launch in Korea, don’t be surprised if Samsung launches it in other markets as well, since the Galaxy S4 with the newer CPU is rumored to be gearing up for an international launch. Fingers crossed because, you know, us folks outside the company’s home country would love this ruggedness plus dazzling processing power combo, too.
