Samsung’s very first 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD drive will begin shipping next week. The info was revealed by Rod Bland, CEO of RamCity.
The new SM961 offers improved performance over the previous-gen SM951 drives and uses a new “Polaris” controller that helps minimize heat output. Thanks to the new controller, the 1TB SM961 is capable of maximum sequential read speed of 3200 MB/s and sequential write speed of 1800 MB/s. Random read performance is listed to be 450,000 IOPS while random write goes up to 320,000 IOPS.
As for the price, RamCity has revealed that the 1TB SM961 will be available for $512. The 256GB version is priced at $159, while the 512GB version costs $280. Very decent pricing overall and the lower capacity drives are actually priced lower than the 950 Pro drives.
