Samsung releases new feature phone for Korean market

Everybody knows that smartphones are the rage in this day and age, but there will always be people who prefer the simplicity and ease-of-use that the humble feature phone is capable of providing. And as it turns out, the market for such handsets is still big enough for Samsung to justify the release of a new feature phone which boasts a sleek and luxurious design. That being said, does anyone fancy taking a trip back in time and getting their hands on one of Samsung's new clamshell-styled mobiles phones?

Smartphones are the new mainstream mobile phones of choice for consumers, right? Well, apparently not: while there is no denying that just about everybody you know is now the proud owner of a sleek, new smartphone that boasts the capability to perform all kinds of tasks, thanks to its nature of being constantly being connected to the Internet via the wonders of today's 3G networks.

However, there will always be people who perfer that their mobile phones remain as the telecommunication and text messaging tools they were originally designed to be, and it is for this reason that many mobile phone manufacturers still make it a point to complement their smartphone offerings with periodical releases of feature phones that excel in performing basic tasks such as making phone calls, keeping track of appointments and most importantly, making phone calls. And this is what Samsung is aiming to offer consumers with the release of its new, Korea-only feature phone, which has been aptly named the "Minimalist Folder".

According to the official press release, the Minimalist Folder has been designed to be a simple and easy-to-use mobile phone. And apparently, Samsung's idea of "simple and easy-to-use" involves the use of huge keypads and large fonts on a big display, both of which are well-known characteristics of Samsung's older feature phones, although it is clear that this practice has been carried over to the new Minimalist Folder. In addition, Samsung claims that the Minimalist Folder features a certain surface coating which it calls the Hyperskin Body which not only gives the phone a luxurious look and feel, but also protects the device from the likes of fingerprint stains, nicks and scratches as well.

Last but definitely not least, Samsung has confirmed that the lightweight Minimalist Folder (it weighs only 105.2g) will feature a two-megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity, the ability to make SOS calls and support for external microSD cards with capacities of up to 16GB. And just so you remind you once again, the Minimalist Folder is only available for sale in Korea, where it has a 200,000 won (approx US$185) price tag attached to it.
