Samsung goes official with the Galaxy Tab 3 8-inch and 10-inch tablets

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0

After endless leaks, Samsung finally goes official with the Galaxy Tab 3. The Korean giant announced two versions of the same, an 8-incher and a 10-incher.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. introduces its newest products to the ever-growing tablet market, the Galaxy Tab 3. Coming in two distinct flavors (8-inch and 10-inch), the Galaxy Tab 3 aims to deliver the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean experience to users (skinned with TouchWIZ on top, as usual) for a relatively affordable price as it targets more value-oriented buyers.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.0 8-inch Specifications:

  • Intel Atom Z2560 Chipset
  • 1.5 GHz Dual-Core Atom CPU
  • PowerVR SGX544 GPU
  • 1.5 GB Of RAM
  • 8-inch WXGA (1280 x 800) TFT Display
  • 5 MP Rear Camera, 1.3 MP Front Camera
  • 16/32 GB Storage, MicroSD Card Slot
  • 4450 mAh Li-Ion Battery
  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

Confirming all previous rumors, the 8-inch Tab 3 does indeed pack an Intel chipset inside. Samsung continues to milk the same design across their new devices as with each passing day and every new Samsung smart devices launched in the market, we have more and more similar looking devices (you should have a look at the Grand, S3, S4 and Note II side-by-side and you’ll know what I’m talking about).

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.0 10-inch Specifications:

  • 1.6 GHz Dual-Core CPU
  • 1 GB Of RAM
  • 10.1-inch WXGA (1280 x 800) TFT Display
  • 3.15 MP Rear Camera, 1.3 MP Front Camera
  • 16/32 GB Storage, Micro SD Card Slot
  • 6800 mAh Li-Po Battery
  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

WXGA is a resolution that does okay on an 8-incher, but it really leaves the user wanting for more on a 10-inch display. Pixel density takes a toll, falling as low as 149 ppi. Expect to see individual pixels without really much of an effort. Other areas where the 10-incher is a downgrade compared to its 8-inch sibling is the camera (3.15 MP v/s 5 MP) and RAM (1 GB v/s 1.5 GB).

Good news for those looking to buy either of these tablets, Samsung will start selling them both as soon as “early June”.
