Samsung is all set to launch its first smartwatch, called Galaxy Gear, at this year’s IFA show in Berlin on September 4th.
The Galaxy Gear (SM-V700) will act as a companion accessory for the Galaxy range of mobile devices. The smartwatch is likely to feature a flexible display. From the patent filing, it can be seen that the device will feature a power button, USB port and capacitive back and menu buttons.
Samsung described the Galaxy Gear as a “wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band, or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails, and messages.”
Apple is also rumoured to be working on a smartwatch, which might be called the iWatch. No details are available at this stage regarding the iWatch, but it should be announced sometime next year. The Galaxy Gear will be unveiled alongside the long-awaited Galaxy Note III at Samsung’s event, UNPACKED Episode 2, which will be held at the IFA show.
