Samsung announces launch of new smartphones and tablets in Singapore

Samsung GALAXY Nexus

Samsung and Google have jointly launched the GALAXY Nexus, which claims to be the world’s first smartphone running Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest release of the Android platform. The GALAXY Nexus sports a 4.65-inch high definition Super AMOLED display (720p resolution) and is equipped with a 1.2GHz dual core processor. The Google Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich offers a redesigned user interface with improved multi-tasking, notifications, Wi-Fi hotspot, near field communication (NFC) support and full web browsing experience. It also features Face Unlock which uses facial recognition to unlock the phone. On top of that, Ice Cream Sandwich features a new People app, which allows users to browse friends, family, and coworkers, see their photos in high-resolution, and check their latest status updates from Google+ and other social networks.

Designed with rounded edges to fit perfectly within your palm, the GALAXY Nexus features software navigation buttons, a first for Android smartphones, as well as a redesigned camera with panorama mode, 1080p video recording, zero-shutter lag, and effects with silly faces and background replacement. It has hyper-skin backing on the battery cover that improves the ergonomic feel and makes the phone slip-resistant. Measuring just 8.94mm in thickness, the GALAXY Nexus lets you keep your email, contacts, and all other data synced across your devices, and also access more than 300,000 apps and games from Android Market via wireless Internet connectivity.

The Samsung GALAXY Nexus will be retailing at S$948 (inclusive of GST), before telco subsidies in Q1 2012.
