RadioShack expected to sell Virgin Mobile’s no-contract iPhone from tomorrow

Virgin Mobile had announced a week ago that it will begin selling iPhone 5 without a contract, becoming the first U.S. carrier to do so. Rumor has it that RadioShack is one of the retail partners for the offering.

It is widely believed that the iPhone 5 has now finally come to Virgin because Apple is desperately to clear iPhone 5 inventory ahead of iPhone 5S release. Several promotions and price cuts of on-contract iPhone 5 also lend weight to this speculation. Virgin Mobile had said that it would being selling iPhone 5 to customers, and that its retail partners will carry the device as well. Virgin didn’t specify which resellers were its carrier partners, RadioShack is rumored to be one of them.

It does make sense, considering that RadioShack already sells Virgin’s iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, apart from selling Verizon, AT&T and Sprint’s iPhones with two year contracts. Virgin’s pricing for these unlocked iPhone 5 variants is $100 below the price that Apple sells them for, all three 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants will be available from Virgin for $549, $649 and $749 respectively.

There hasn’t been an official confirmation regarding this from either RadioShack and Virgin. Come tomorrow we’ll know for sure if RadioShack will be carrying Virgin’s latest offering, or if this rumor is purely baseless.
