Qualcomm expands support for Snapdragon 800 to Windows RT, to be used in Surface RT 2?

Microsoft Surface RT 2 Snapdragon 800

Qualcomm, one of the most dominant forces in the mobile chipset industry, announced that its latest (and greatest) Snapdragon 800 chipset has been certified for use with the soon-to-be-released Microsoft Windows 8.1 RT OS. Microsoft may use the new SoC in their upcoming Surface RT 2 tablet, to be launched later this year.

Microsoft is just a couple of weeks away from launching the Public Preview version of Windows 8.1 (and RT). People can’t wait to see all the changes that the company will introduce that should (hopefully) fix the issues with Windows 8, and more importantly Microsoft’s (almost failed) Windows 8 RT platforms. Amidst all this, Qualcomm announces support for Windows 8.1 RT using their latest Snapdragon 800 powerhouse chipset. Reports believe that Microsoft will use Qualcomm’s new baby monster in the (inevitable) Surface RT 2. Hopefully, a powerful new chip and a refreshed OS will help Microsoft’s RT platform for it surely has lots of potential (imagine if all Windows Phone apps are made to work, or are ported over to RT).
