Mavericks was unveiled earlier this year at the World Wide Developers Conference. Up until its release a couple of months back, the software was in beta version, with developers working on getting their apps ready in time for the release. Apple strayed from tradition as it opted to call OS X 10.9 something other than a big cat, the company looked to its surroundings for inspiration when it came to naming the new update. It brought a number of major changes to OS X as well as a plethora of new features.

Last month the company started seeding OS X 10.9.1 betas to developers, at that point end users couldn’t install the beta releases. With the last build being seeded in the first week of December, Apple has finally released the OS X 10.9.1 incremental update. It weighs in at roughly 300MB, though users shouldn’t expect any major feature upgrades. As per the release notes, the update is meant to improve stability and compatibility of Mac machines, the update is recommended for all Mavericks users.

OS X 10.9.1 improves support for Gmail in OS X Mail and also brings fixes for users who have custom Gmail settings. It fixes an issue which prevented contact groups from working properly in the Mail app and also resolves issue that stopped VoiceOver from speaking sentences that had emoji. Reliability of Smart Mailboxes and search in Mail has been improved and the update also updates Shared Links periodically when open in the Safari browser’s sidebar.
